Jawbone launches new Era BT earpiece, offers compelling reasons for this wearable

events 8th june 2013Jawbone launches new Era BT earpiece, offers compelling reasons for this wearable
With a huge amount of information on the net about earpiece’s it’s hard to discover the best and generally truthful information. here is a piece from a reputable website that i believe to be accurate, do not quote me on it but please read and enjoy

The last time I checked out a Jawbone Bluetooth earpiece was in 2010 with the ICON and that was when I gave up on wireless earpieces. Jawbone just announced their next generation headset, the new Jawbone Era, available at Jawbone.com and Verizon for $129.99.

Admittedly, when I see someone with a BT earpiece in today I think they are either a bit arrogant in thinking their conversations are more important than those around them or that they are out of touch with the latest technology. Neither may be true, but it just feels like BT headsets have gone the way of portable navigation devices. However, we are seeing that both may be coming back into fashion as technology continues to evolve and the use cases for such devices make even more sense than they used to.

I talked with Gernard Feril from Jawbone and was intrigued to hear about their findings regarding headset usage that closely match how I use my smartphones and earbuds. Jawbone designed the new Era to satisfy the consumer with these needs.

As you all know, smartphones have gotten significantly larger over the last couple of years and now more than ever a Bluetooth earpiece makes even more sense. Jawbones data shows the following:

I have been using the new Jawbone Era for a day and have to say I think this headset is perfect for many of my audio needs and I may be going back to using a Bluetooth earpiece. Its still early in my evaluation and I plan to write up a full review after a couple of weeks, but so far I am quite impressed with its performance and slick design.

The new Era is 42 percent smaller than their previous generation Era, which is quite an amazing feat considering the last Era was already quite small. It weighs almost nothing, actually just 6 grams, and you likely won’t even notice it in your ear. They also developed a charging case, designed to go with you, that extends the talk time to a total of ten hours.

I commute on a train for a couple hours a day, am on phone calls for about an hour a day, use my phone for all my music, and am a heavy consumer of podcasts. I use wired earbuds for most of these audio experiences, but carrying earbuds, untangling the cable, and wrestling with the cable and my backpack are a bit of a hassle. It also limits my range of motion and completely isolates me from the world around me.

I dont necessarily need full stereo performance with two earbuds for podcasts, calls, and music so plan to use the new Jawbone Era for a couple weeks to see if this small headset is a better option for my lifestyle.

The new Jawbone Era uses Jawbones new NoiseAssassin 4.0 noise cancellation technology and with all of the construction near my office and Seattle noise I will be sure to put this technology to the test soon. The new earpiece also supports wideband audio and a couple of the devices I have support this so that is another function I plan to evaluate.

The earpiece package includes 1 medium silicone earbud for the left ear and a small, medium, and large earbud for the right ear. I used to wear my Bluetooth earpiece in my left ear and luckily the medium seems to fit well. I will try my right ear with the different sizes too since I do plan to go running with the Jawbone Era to test its ability to stay in my ear with lots of movement.

The new Jawbone headset iOS and Android application just launched this morning so I have only spent a couple minutes with it and cannot yet comment on its functionality. The software is designed to let you customize the voices on your headset, access your favorite playlists, and even locate your headset if it is lost. I will be sure to cover this in my review.

The Jawbone Era will be available in four colors; black, silver, brown, and red. It is priced at $129.99 for the headset and charging case and $99.99 just for the headset. Verizon and Jawbone.com have it available now with the Era coming to Apple, AT&T, and Best Buy stores in the future.

Let me know if you have any specific questions you want answered in my full review and I will be sure to test things out and cover the topics then.

The Westone W40 Review

For years people have been telling me that family, love and happiness are the important things in life…These days I realized that I can take or leave all that as long as I have this radio accessory in the world.

earpiece spy gadgetBeneath each buds innocuous plastic frame rests a mighty four pack of razor-thin balanced-armature drivers. The drivers are separated by three crossover points for bass, midrange, and treble, with a claimed frequency range of 10Hz to 18kHz.

Comfort
The W40 fit very snugly, and that helps them achieve their impressive amount of passive noise attenuation. Westone claims the W40 knock off 25 db of noise, and were inclined to agree. Comfort will obviously vary for each person, but once we found the right ear tip for us, the W40 were as comfortable as any bud weve evaluated. Fortunately, the included accessory pouch offers just about every size imaginable. The foam tips were harder to insert and more invasive, but they also stayed put with an iron grip, which could come in handy in more tumultuous environments.

Audio performance
While the W40 could be used in a number of scenarios involving premium electronics and high-quality source material, we think many folks will use them with their smartphones to play back MP3s. So thats how we tested them: MP3s via an iPhone 5. Having done so, we can honestly say that, degraded source file or no, the W40 provided unbridled clarity, vivid definition, and miles of dynamic expression, reminding this reviewer, once again, that he truly does have the best job on the planet.
The W40s detailed sound is so supremely refined that it provided fresh explorations into some of our favorite tracks, creating that sought-after new discovery experience that makes old classics sound brand new again. The W40s provide professional mixing-level clarity, and you could certainly use the W40 in that capacity, or as a live in-ear monitor. Every nuance, muttering vocal, double-tracked guitar, or fluttering sweep of dissipating reverb was laid out in nimble, pristinely separated corridors of the sound stage.
But the W40 arent just accurate. We also found the word beautiful riddled throughout our evaluation notes. Serenely ringing sweeps of an acoustic guitar, or swelling bows from a set of violins often surprised us with their sheer beauty. When youre enamored with the applause at the end of The Beatles Bungalow Bill, you know youre dealing with an impressive set of headphones. The W40 also did well tracing the roots of each instrument in every recording, digging up the inherent colors within and reproducing them, albeit with a taste of the lighter, laser-sharp touch for which balanced-armature drivers are known.
Not surprisingly, the W40 really only showcased their full potential on works with extremely complex, richly-layered dimensions from bands like Radiohead, Depeche Mode, and Stevie Wonder. For example, Before Your Very Eyes by Atoms for Peace sounded almost like a different track altogether. Brand new details came to life, and others that had only been a ghost of a sound, like the wave effect that whirls behind the top layers towards the end of the song, were pulled from the background and aired for the first time in the light of day.
Of course, we do have a couple of nits to pick. As is common in an armature-driver system, the bass wasnt always as potent as we wanted it, and occasionally there was just a shade too much sibilance up top, evidenced by an s or t in a vocal line, or a sharp snap on a snare. But those issues tended to occur only on our lightest or poorest recordings, and the W40 do an excellent job coaxing warmth and fluidity from a design that is often accused of sounding clinical or sterile.

Westone W40 earbud
Also, with due appreciation for the W40s superb sound quality, we think most folks will think they are priced a little high for an in-ear. Still, if you can swing it, they absolutely deliver. The W40 provided us with excellent noise isolation and brilliant portable audio compatibility, with sound quality that will only improve for those who do splurge on a premium playback device. After all, and if youve already thrown down $500 for premium electronics, why not go for the gold with the headphones, too?

Conclusion
Westones W40 offer supreme clarity, ravishing detail, and astonishing dynamic expression, placing them in meager company within the hi-fi landscape. Their $500 price tag has a lot of bite, but then again, the work that goes into cramming four drivers into a tiny bud doesnt come cheap.
These are professional headphones, designed for serious audiophiles and musicians casual listeners need not apply. But if you want an in-ear that gives you a whole new way to explore your aging audio collection, Westones W40 may be the set youve been waiting for.

Could you Recommend Some Waterproof Headphones for me? Asked by Betty from Hammersmith

headset updaterAgain another piece i thought was fascinating around the business of earpiece’s, what would you need to do if i didn’t post this ehh? you would have to look at the original article, and the chances you found it could be slim, so think yourself lucky that i’ve shared this excellent piece with you.

Hi Betty,

I take it you’re a newer reader and you therefore aren’t aware of my dislike for recommending specific sets of headphones. In a usual case, (like when one reader asked me to recommend sweat-proof headphones) I have to answer with “it depends on a multitude of factors, such as how often you use them, how important sound quality is to you or even (in that one case) how much you tend to sweat. However, I’m not going to let you down, Betty, because waterproof headphones are actually a bit different…

There are several companies that specialize in designing totally waterproof headphones, some of which I’ll be glad to recommend to you. However, at this point, I really must stress that I have never owned, borrowed, or even reviewed a pair of waterproof headphones, so although I am happy to point you in the right direction, I (metaphorically, of course) wash my hands of responsibility if they don’t quite work. My advice to you is to try Amazon first and read the customer reviews (especially the negative ones), before making your purchase.

Anyway, now that’s over and done with…

A company called ‘Swimmer LTD’ specialize in all things swimming related, with special emphasis on watertight cases for iPods, smartphones and even iPads. They also sell headphones, of course and their site features customer reviews for most of their products.

Another company called ‘H20 Audio’ also makes waterproof headphones and FINIS have a set called the ‘SwimP3’ which, dopey name aside, seems to be rather well-regarded by swimmers. The ‘SwimP3’ utilizes bone conduction technology, which is probably the best way to go if you’re planning on listening to music whilst swimming.

Bone conduction, in case you don’t know, simply bypasses the outer ear and stimulates the tiny inner ear bones (called ‘ossicles’), just as an organic sound would, your brain then interprets this sound exactly the same way as it would if you’d heard it in your ear, only, because your outer ear is not directly being used, you are free to wear earplugs (which some swimmers like to do).

These suggestions are by no means your only options though; there are a veritable ton of companies out there all manufacturing products exactly like the ones you want. So, whilst I can’t give any of them a personal seal of approval (sorry about that), I can at least offer a helping hand. Is that enough, Betty?

VIP Nano Spy Earpiece – History of Achievements

headset with phone jackAgain one more article i thought was remarkable on the issue of radio accessory’s, what would you need to do if i didn’t post this ehh? you’d have to look at the initial content, and the chances you found it could be slim, so think yourself blessed that i have shared this glorious article with you.

Each person tends to simplify the work. Everybody strives to improve the quality of life. Every modern man tries to understand the trends of modern robotics and advanced nano-technology. Growing needs of people cause progress!

We describe an excellent device – Spy Earpiece – as a trend of modern technology which improves our live.

Evolution of spy earpieces:

– Analog Covert Earphone (to the 90s)
– Digital Simple Earpiece (from 1993 to 2001)
– Digital Micro Spy Earpiece (from 2001 to present)
– Digital Wireless Nano Spy Earpiece (from 2008 to present)
– Digital VIP Nano Spy Earpiece (from 2011 to present)

All modern Spy Earpieces are made based on digital technologies. First time, digital earpiece was made in England by student Max Brown in 1993. The modern Spy Earpieces are produced in the modern technological laboratories and workshops. Max Brown is the owner of production of Spy Earpieces and chain stores around the world.
But technology never stops. The latest innovation in the wireless Spy Earpieces is VIP Nano Spy Earpiece.
It can work up to 12 hours in the conversation mode. 12 hours of continuous work – that’s great! This is unique Spy Earpiece which isn’t allowing us to hear outside noises. It is achieved through the nanotechnology in the production of Spy Earpieces.

Let’s look history of the Spy Earpiece industry.

The first Covert Earphones were very bulky and not convenient for using. It was required an urgent reduction of size to achieve the desired stealth’s effect. In the 1993 British engineering students developed the first prototype of the Digital Simple Earpiece for hidden communication. From that moment the size is approaching the modern one.
With the rise of mobile technology and mobile phones in everyday life – had developed new models spy earpieces working in conjunction with a cellular phone. So in 2001, was released a completely new on the characteristics earpiece works in conjunction with some mobile phone companies Nokia and Motorola. A few months later there were already supporting devices from other manufacturers of mobile phones, there were models for Samsung, LG, Sony, Ericsson(then it was still different independent companies) and Alcatel.

With the release of an absolutely revolutionary, amazing device by Apple January 9, 2007, the world has changed mobile communications. Changed standards of quality and changed standards of convenience. Now we can say that the Steve changed the world. Max Brown company quickly navigate and has gone on sale in the spring version of micro earpiece with full support for iPhone Steve Jobs.

Exposed to innovative ideas and developments Apple, Max Brown and his team is developing a new version of spy earpiece – where time has been brought up to 5 hours and significantly improved sound quality. Device enters the market in February 2008 and receives the name Nano spy earpiece. Already at that time, developers are set to make the device completely undetectable by external scanners to improve the safety of users and bring a new level of interference protection device by removing all unnecessary incoming signals to the speaker. These plans would have remained unfulfilled, if not several contracts concluded in 2009 with a few large companies involved in security in the banking sector. New investments have given the acceleration in the development and Research Security new kinds of devices.
So, in early 2011, the market goes limited party of the revolutionary device called VIP. These devices work with all existing mobile phones are completely protected from the external detection of advanced security scanners, working hours increased to a record 12 hours, and noise level of external influences is reduced to an absolute low level of white noise (noise space).

Now the Mr. Browns company is known as the official spy earpiece founder, developer and manufacturer spy earpieces.

Turtle Beach X11 For Call of Duty

Again one more article i found fascinating on the topic of radio accessory’s, what would you do if i didn’t post this ehh? you would have to find the original article, and the chances you found it would be slim, so deem yourself fortunate that i’ve shared this wonderful piece with you.

While it is among the most powerful Killstreaks included in the game it can be challenging to use if you have no experience for it.
In this deathmatch strategy guide I’m going to outline how to be able to finally obtain and also master the unique AC-130 Killstreak incentive.
There are a handful of different methods obtain the AC-130 Killstreak around Modern Warfare 2. You can get across your fingers and hope to get it out of one of many random Killstreaks within a Care Package deal. This is a tough one to obtain given that the percentage chance to getting an AC-130 is reportedly as few as 8%.

This is various peoples first experience which has an AC-130 and it usually can be a confusing ordeal while using 3 different guns and aiming strategy required when employing it. This is a little taste of which the AC-130 works as well as what havoc you may wreak with it if you know how to make use of.

Alternatively if you are a bit more experienced with Advanced Warfare 2 you’ve got unlocked hopefully your Harrier Killstreak and next finally the AC-130 Killstreak. It is a challenging Killstreak to arive at as you have got to first get seven kills in the row to discover your Harriers.

Then cross a person’s fingers and hide somewhere during the map safely and let your Harrier do your projects. Your goal will be to kill at least some opponents with ones Harrier airstrike simply by selecting an part of the map to decrease the Harrier payload. When your Harrier gets started to hover for the map you may want to bide time until it to fastener onto some adversaries and use the powerful Gatling gun.

If everything comes well and none of this enemy team is quick to pull out the Stinger missiles you have to be at 11 kills within a row. Time to call in the big guns!
At 11 kills within the row you can now finally call inside your valuable AC-130. You should are somewhere safe as you can be left vulnerable on the floor while you manage the AC-130. Games like Modern-day Warfare 2 the industry good game but perhaps you should attempt playing it with the Turtle Beach face phones then see whatever you think of the action.

They improve a sound quality a great deal you’ll be able to hear someone sneaking up behind you even when they’re walking slowly attempting not carryout a sound.
Without any wires so you can get in your way you can focus on the game play they may not likely help boost the kills on matches like Call Of Duty however will help in other ways like if you’re willing to hear someone sneaking upwards behind you you’ll get to move before they allow you to get or you will kill them.

If your an actual gamer then make an attempt these online your x11 headphones could really make a difference to your gaming whether they don’t they will clearly improve the audio quality.

Hello fellow gamers! For today’s Top Gaming Headset We are reviewing the Call up of Duty: Schokohautige Ops Dolby accurate 5. 1 game playing headset by Tritton.

Xbox One vs PlayStation 4: Which controller is better?

For years people have been telling me that relations, love and happiness are the important things in life…These days I realise that I’m able to take or leave all that so long as We have this earpiece in the world.

As the new consoles from Microsoft and Sony go head to head on the high street, gamers are getting their hands on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 controllers for the first time.
Both companies have spent tens of thousands of dollars in researching and designing the shape, features and feel of their pads.
After all, if the lifespan of the last generation is anything to go by, people will still be using them in a decade.
But which pad comes out on top?

PlayStation 4At first glance Sony’s new pad looks similar to the previous generation’s DualShock 3 controller. A closer look reveals it’s slightly wider, with a curvier shape.
The new L2 and R2 buttons feel more like triggers, and Select and Start have given way to by Share and Option buttons.
All new features include the light bar, which can change colour to tell you which player you are in a multiplayer game, or as a health indicator. It also has an internal speaker, a headset socket and a touch pad which doubles as a clickable button.
Xbox OneThe new controller from Microsoft is very much an evolution of the Xbox 360 pad, taking the best bits of the previous design and honing them. All the older controller’s buttons are present, and only the guide button has moved significantly.
The biggest change is that instead of having a bulky battery pack attached to the back of the controller, two AA batteries sit snugly within the body of the pad. As a result, the contour of the rear of the pad is a single, smooth curve.
ReactionSo how have the gaming public reacted to the new pads?
Jay Budd, commenting on YouTube said “I like the Xbox One controller. Wasn’t a fan of the thumb sticks at first, but got used to it after an hour or so.”
Microsoft have drawn criticism for using their own connector for headsets.
The console comes with one, but if you want another you’ll have to shell out about £25 for Microsoft’s official Xbox One chat headset – for now at least.
Sony, on the other hand, have included a standard 3.5mm headphones jack, so any standard headset – such as Apple’s iPhone Earpods – will work.
YouTube user Neo Jeeto took issue with some of the new features of both controllers, saying: “I hate the Share and Option buttons, and the rougher grip texture on the [DualShock 4], but I like the sticks and triggers.
“I don’t like the triggers or bumpers on the Xbox One controller, but I like the sticks better than the 360.”
It’ll take time for many hardened gamers to decide which of the two pads is their favourite, but Timothy J Seppala, a contributing editor at tech blog Engadget has made up his mind already.
@adanzis the ps4 controller is the best one I’ve ever used. No lie.

Beats by Dr. Dre [Smart Marketing]

Some of these pro writers on the web are at such a high level that i wonder if any of them have ever written a paperback? well occasionally i like to focus on these exceptional items and here is one i thought was interesting the other day.

police trade in gunsDr. Dre line of high performance headphones, has started a craze in the US and European markets; where consumers literally save their monies to buy these seemingly overpriced accessories to add to their headphone collection. but why would customers spend their hard earned cash on these expensive toys?? Because its on the ears of almost every celebrity, that’s why.
Celebrity marketing is used to its full capacity by Monster *the makers and marketers behind the Beats by Dr. Dre Collection*, where successful partnerships have been forged with the most influential and prominent celebrities of all time. Their lineup includes the likes of the “Bad Romance” mega star Lady Gaga and the “Baby Baby Baby” pop idol, Justin Beiber.
It is only natural for fans to want to emulate the people they deem to be their “idols” and Monster is taking full advantage of this situation. They have also taken it a step further and have designed themed headphones for celebrities, where fans may purchase the headphone of a certain personality they may emulate.
“MarketingNotesJA” believes this strategy to be an effective marketing tool, that is obviously working and is reflective of perfect positioning, becoming to Americans what the Blackberry is to us Jamaicans; “a hit.”

Credit card details on twenty million South Koreans stolen

My basic review of the new technology it starts up well, looks pretty awesome, is easy to run and really energy resourceful, the technology really is a excellent item. I’m pleased I bought it, read further beneath.

headset hs 04suAs the headline suggests, 20 million South Koreans have had their credit card details stolen this month. This shocking discovery means that sensitive data regarding almost half of all South Koreans has now been accessed without their consent.

It is believed that a thus-far unnamed computer contractor, who was working for a company called The Korea Credit Bureau, copied the names, social security numbers and credit card details of around 20 million Korean citizens. The stolen data was then stored on a flash key before being sold to a number of marketing firms.

The culprit was later arrested, as were marketing professionals who allegedly bought the data from him. The true extent of the damage, however, is not yet known.

The Korea Credit Bureau has access to the databases of three major South Korean credit card firms, KB Kookmin Card, Lotte Card and NH Nonghyup Card and a special task force has been implemented in order to investigate the damage caused by this security breach.

The data was apparently left unencrypted by the companies, in a stunning display of haphazard security measures.

Sadly, data theft on this scale is nothing new in South Korea. In 2012, two computer hackers stole details of 8.7 million KT mobile customers and, the year before, 35 million social network accounts (owned by the site ‘Cyworld’) were also exposed.

The bosses of the affected firms issued a public apology, each bowing his head in a gesture of shame. The companies are expected to cover any financial loses experienced as a result of the breach.

How To Improve Your Activism and Community With Two Way Radios

bluetooth radioWithout giving too much about this radio earpiece short article, but I thought it exciting and related to what I’m now doing.

Why do government agents use two way radios? Because they work! One of the most useful tools I’ve ever purchased, is my handheld two way radio. I had first bought a couple of them when I was living in New York and was going kind of crazy with the whole prepper thing. I quickly realized they were basically useless because I didn’t know anybody else with a two way radio.

That all changed when I got to Keene, New Hampshire, and saw how powerful these devices could be. They were mostly using marine band VHF radios at the time, and I realized I could tune my VHF radio into those frequencies. The libertarian community there uses these radios regularly, along with a group text messaging system they call “Keene 411?. The ability to instantly communicate with other activists proved to be very useful, and built a sense of community and comradery that I have yet to see elsewhere.

They have become so effective at “Robin Hooding” that parking enforcers actually run away from them. They use the radios to track down the parking enforcers, and alert other activists to their location, so they can put coins in parking meters before the meter maid can write a ticket. Additionally, if someone is pulled over, or otherwise harassed by government agents (or anyone else for that matter) you can simply radio for help, and activists will show up with cameras.

At its most basic level, this is so easy to replicate, it’s a wonder more people haven’t already done it. Just buy a radio for yourself, and encourage a neighbor to do the same, agree on a frequency/channel, and talk. The most difficult part is getting people to buy the radios and monitor them on a regular basis. Once they are in regular use however, once people see their friends using the radios, everybody is going to want one, and they will become a regular part of your daily life.

The question everybody jumps to, is range. “How far can these radios communicate?”. There’s no easy answer to that question. It depends on frequency, transmit power, interference, topography, antenna type, antenna height, construction, trees, the curvature of the earth, weather, and more variables than I care to list. There’s a website that can help you estimate the potential distance of your transmission, called CloudRF. They also make a very useful android app called RFSignal, which I have purchased. This is more for repeaters and towers though, we’ll talk about repeaters later.

If you go to Target/Best Buy/Walmart and buy a walkie talkie, it’s probably a 22 channel GMRS/FRS radio. This stands for General Mobile Radio Service and Family Radio service, respectively. They will tell you that the radios have a maximum distance of 2 to 50 miles, and that’s almost complete nonsense. Unless you have line of sight, as in, no obstacles between you and the person you’re communicating with, these radios will not communicate very far at all. I’ve tried to use them on job sites, and been unable to communicate with coworkers inside the same building.

FRS legally requires no license, is limited to 500 miliwatts, and must have a fixed antenna.

GMRS legally requires an FCC license, which you can purchase for $85, but there is next to zero enforcement on this, and the FCC has proposed to remove the licensing requirement. With an FCC license, you can legally transmit on these frequencies at up to 50 watts, and use pretty much any antenna you like, so long as the antenna is not more than 20 feet above the ground, or above the tree to which the antenna is mounted.

This just in… As I was writing this article, and browsing the FCC website for regulatory information, they shut down the website, because of the government shutdown. Now, they haven’t actually gone dark, they just put this silly message on their site. “We regret the disruption, but during the Federal Government-wide shutdown, the FCC is limited to performing duties that are immediately necessary for the safety of life or the protection of property. FCC online systems will not be available until further notice.”

The funny thing is, for that message to display, they have to keep their servers up and running, which is what incurs the expense. They just made their content unavailable, I guess to “punish” us for not going along with their incessant demands for greater and greater funding. How childish… Good thing I have absolutely no intention of complying with any FCC regulations, shutdown or no shutdown.

In any case, the radios that you buy in retail stores, while they are capable of communicating on GMRS frequencies, do so under FRS standards. They are half watt radios with fixed antennas, even if you buy a “high power” radio, they usually only transmit at one watt. The upside to these devices is, they are widely available, many people already have them. The downside is, they don’t communicate very far, and some of them can be very expensive.

The other type of hand held radio you can buy in some stores is a marine band radio. These are usually 5 watt radios, and will communicate much further than the FRS/GMRS radios. The downside is, these are illegal to use on land, and very few people have them. You also might run into a lot of interference if you live near the water, as I do when I’m in New York, and these radios don’t use privacy codes. You can also buy a more high power marine band radio for your home or vehicle, but these will often cost upwards of $200, and transmit at 25 watts.

The ultimate answer, for handhelds, is to buy an open dual band hand held two way radio. I have two of these, a Baofeng UV5R, and a Puxing PX-888k.

These radios transmit at 5 watts on the VHF frequencies, and 4 watts on UHF. You can tune them into the GMRS frequencies, or marine band frequencies. They can use privacy codes to eliminate interference from other radios in the area. They can also use repeaters, which the retail radios cannot.

I prefer the Puxing to the Baofeng, it has some extra features like voice scrambler, the belt clip is also more sturdy, and the newer ones can act as a cross band repeater. The Baofeng however, is a lot cheaper, about half the price.

Either one will suit your purposes just fine. Yes, these are affiliate links, I get paid if you buy them from here. But that’s not my motivation for displaying them, I really want more people using these radios. The more of us who have them, the more useful they are.

Once you have the radios, you can manually tune to the frequency you want to use, or you can program in channels. To program channels using a computer you will need a special programming cable, and programming software. The software is free. You can download the Puxing programming software here (Just find your model number). You can download the Baofeng programming software here. Below you will find a link to the programming cable, unless you’re using an ad blocking plugin for your browser, in which case, buzz off. This cable will work for both of these radios, and many others as well.
